Where Rust Stains Come From in Las Vegas
Most of the orange staining we see on Las Vegas concrete comes from irrigation. Valley water carries heavy mineral content, and sprinkler overspray and drip lines leave rust-colored stains wherever they hit the driveway, walkway, or patio. Rust also shows up under metal furniture, planters, and anything metal left sitting on concrete.
Pressure washing alone will not take rust out, no matter how much pressure you use. Rust needs a rust removal chemical that breaks the stain down first, which is why rust treatment is its own step, separate from regular pressure washing in Las Vegas.
We treat all kinds of rust, and every job is looked at case by case. We will tell you what to realistically expect before we start.

Rust Removal: Before, During, and After
This was irrigation rust on a concrete driveway, and it came out well. Every stain is different, and deep or long-standing rust can leave a faint shadow.

Before: an irrigation rust streak down the driveway

During: rust removal chemical working on the stain

After: the rust treated and the driveway cleaned
How We Treat Rust Stains
Rust needs its own treatment, so it is handled as a separate step from the cleaning.
Assess
We look at the stain, the surface, and how long the rust has likely been there, then tell you what to realistically expect.
Treat the rust
A rust removal chemical goes on the stain and is given time to break the rust down.
Clean and rinse
The surface is cleaned with hot water and a surface cleaner, then rinsed so the finish looks even.
Why Pressure Alone Will Not Remove Rust
Rust is not dirt sitting on top of the concrete. It is iron that has oxidized into the surface, and water pressure cannot dissolve it.
Turning the pressure up does not help. On concrete it can etch the surface and leave marks that look worse than the stain did.
A rust removal chemical breaks the rust down so it can be rinsed away. That is the step that actually does the work.
The sooner rust is treated, the easier it usually is. Adjusting the sprinkler or drip line that caused it keeps it from coming back.
